A satire of dysfunctional government and economic inequality.

Chapter III: Day/Page 27 CONTINUED FROM YESTERDAY. . . . “Conversely, those species that evolve the intellectual capacity to grasp the complex structure of the cosmos, and have the physical ability to create technology and tools, but which lack moral-consciousness development and fail to understand the inherent interconnection of the metaphysical universe, tend to end up annihilating themselves with the powerful technology they create before their moral-consciousness can evolve to the extent needed to responsibly wield that technology.

“Only class-1 species able to do both typically survive for the long-term. The others, sadly, are usually fated for extinction, subject to the vagaries of luck and time.”

“But I still don’t understand what the Trinity is,” says Sofia.

“Well, the Trinity is a juncture in the evolutionary process which all advanced life-forms must successfully pass through if they are to survive for the long-term. The Trinity is a critical confluence of events, a specific point in time where a species, particularly one from the second group I mentioned—those with high intellect, but low moral-consciousness—often stumble and fall, joining the incalculable list of species that blossom briefly, only to become extinct later and vanish into oblivion, becoming another fizzled experiment in life’s evolutionary lab.

“There are three physical and three metaphysical phases which all species must go through to become a truly advanced class-1 life-form. The three metaphysical phases are: first, Self-consciousness, where we understand that we are unique distinct beings with an individual awareness of self; next, Collective-consciousness, where we realize that we share an interrelated connection, responsibility, and obligation to all other life; and finally, Universal-consciousness, where we gain our deepest, most profound sense of interconnectedness not only to all life, but to the structural and moral fabric of the universe as a whole.

“The three physical phases, on the other hand, which all species must go through to understand the physics of the universe are: Fire, Fission, and Fusion—what we call the three ‘Fs’. With Fire we learn how to break apart the elements, build tools, and burn the fossil fuel that provides our initial mass-energy source for early industrialization; with Fission we crack open the atom and peer inside to begin unraveling the secrets of the underlying laws of the cosmos; and with Fusion we gain additional insight and secure an unlimited energy source that will sustain our continued development and technological advancement in perpetuity.

“Each step is a specific phase that must . . .

About Gregory James

After 20 years working and living overseas, I returned to the US and was disgusted by how partisan and polarized the country had become. Civility and compromise are now quaint things of the past, replaced by intolerance and the rule of extremes. So I gave up a lucrative career for staring at blank pages and searching for words, in the hope that words might help enact change. Stupid. . . . I know! But after 9 months of labor I birthed forth a book, entitled ONE PERCENT SOLUTION. Reminiscent of Vonnegut, with a dash of Saramago and Fforde, this humorous, satirical, often irreverent romp mocks the absurd we accept to be normal, ridicules the ridiculously low bar we set, and challenges all of us to demand more of ourselves by making light of what is sacred that shackles us.
